The expanded metal coverings developed by Atena include both solutions with direct fixing modules on the bearing structure and hanging expanded metal panels with carriers and extruded aluminium profiles with sliding brackets as Atena Formal Step and Formal Slide systems.
These solutions are properly conceived to realize curved modules and special architectural elements which stand out for the geometry and the transparency of the stretched metal. In the direct fixing systems expanded metal modules can be overlapped or spaced through the use of special anti-cut profiles, which prevent the risks of skin cutting and underline the modular shapes of expanded metal sheets.
As all Atena architectural facades systems, even the expanded metal models are equipped with specific finishing elements to properly cover internal and external corners, columns, bases, upper bands and intrados. Above all, the design of windows’ coverings plays a main role, both to ensure the compliance with all intrados and extrados requirements and to achieve the wished aesthetic result.
Expanded metal with high degree of front transparency could be a good choice to screen the windows letting the right quantity of light in. In addition to sun screen coverings, Atena realizes special mechanical and automated pivoting panels.

The appealing of expanded metal comes from several aspects such as the shape, the perforation and the transparency which affects the quantity of light and air that the mesh lets through. The stretched metal is really appreciated by contemporary architecture to play with shapes, transparencies and materials.
For each type of mesh, the open area is indicated as a percentage of void on the surface. For outdoor use in addition to the open area, the meshes are classified for the front transparency which can be considered a measure of shielding degree.
